How can I make AKONet accessible from Internet?
You have to configure the router to forward all the connections from a specific port to the PC or web server with AKONet.
AKONet has been designed to be accessible via internet, despite being mainly used as an Intranetor as a simple desktop application in most cases. This article contains a guide on how to configure the network so that users can access the software remotely withouthaving the needs of fixed IP.
There are two essential tasks that must be carried out before being able to access the web server:
A.- Configuration of port forwarding
Normally, routers block most network ports by default or for security reasons, and the router has to be configured to forward all the connections from a specific port to the PC with AKONet.
To do so we will follow these steps:
- Firstly, you have to change the configuration of the router, open your Web browser and write the IP address of the router in the address bar, which is normally 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. If you are not sure which one it is, open a system symbol window (start/run/write "cmd" and press "Enter") and write "ipconfig", the address of your router is the one that appears after "Default gateway" .
- A Router safety system window will open, enter user name and password to connect. If you do not know this information, consult your router's user guide.
- Once in the router menu, you have to look for the port forwarding option (some routers call it virtual server or port forwarding, although the name may vary depending on the type of router used). If you cannot find this option in your router, consult the web http://portforward.com, where you will find a collection of screenshots of the most common routers on the market.
- Then enter the IP address of the AKONet server in LAN and port 82 in the respective columns.
- Make sure you click 'save' or 'add' (depending on the router model) to save the port forwarding configuration.
- It is then advisable to confirm if the port forwarding has been carried out correctly.
You can use the web http://www.canyouseeme.org to check if the configuration of the port is correct.
Enter port 82 in the "What port?" box and then click the "Check" button. A message will be sent with the result of the test.
B.- Registration of the machine's name
The aim is to replace the IP address with a constant URL that is easy to remember for the operators and end users. The steps to create a free host name using www.no-ip.com are listed below.
- Download No-IP client and install it in the same PC as where the AKONet is installed.
- Register an account in No-IP.com. Once registered, account activation will be sent by e-mail to the address you have indicated and you must follow the activation process indicated in the mail.
- When you have finished the activation process, enter No-IP with the e-mail and password.
- Click link "Hosts/Redirects" to configure the machine's name.
- Enter the required machine name in the host name box and click the "Create Host" button.
- Execute No-IP client in the PC to link this PC with the host name created in the previous step. This client will automatically change the IP address in the No-IP servers and redirect internet users to the AKONet4 server.
- If you want the No-IP client to automatically execute in the event of a disconnection of the PC, include this program in the Windows Start menu.
From then on, instead of using the IP of the AKONet server, you can use the name that you have generated in No-IP.
